Full title: Investigation of an area of the "Kolberger Heide" by means of a multibeam sonar with the primary focus on the complexity of the mapping work of explosive ordnance in the sea
Thesis language: German
The postprocessing of the data collected on FK Littorina (LIT/1907) by means of multibeam echosounder and the investigation of existing problems in the evaluation of these data with regard to explosive ordnance are central elements of this work. In addition, a possibility of manual mapping via use of specially prepared catalog is presented and the time required for this mapping is estimated as well as an outlook on the future mapping of explosive ordnance. In a first step, the bathymetric data and the data of the intensity of the backscatter are postprocessed employing a suitable software. A determination of the resolution allows an estimation of the kind of explosive ordnance to be found. As a following step, the investigation of the area for suspicious facts is done from the gridded bathymetric data. The assessment of a suspicious fact found in this way is followed by the calculation of a spatially limited and high-resolution backscatter mosaic. In case of doubt, ungridded bathymetry data as well as backscatter (point clouds) are additionally examined. In the last step, more concrete suspicious data are measured, described, interpreted and included in the catalog. A determination of the position and the production of at least one image of the suspicious fact is also carried out. For a first estimation of the time needed for mapping, the average calculation time of a high-resolution mosaic under different conditions is determined. At the end, this work gives an insight into the different scenarios in which mapping, very different in type and extent, is applied and how it can be made more efficient in the future. 1203 suspicious facts have been investigated and 29 are classified as rather artificial and should be investigated in more detail. If the suspicions are confirmed, this work shows that explosive ordnance is present outside the official munition dump site and within an area of suspected contamination. The evaluation has shown that pareidolia, a kind of sensory delusion, can occur while looking at the gridded intensity data. This work also proves that it is possible to train a non-specialized person in the detection of explosive ordnance. At the same time this paper can serve as a handy guide for training them. Since the mapping of this area alone takes 167 hours, it is advisable in the case of further large-scale mapping to provide such training within the framework of a student job, for example. A future-oriented possibility is the mapping by means of artificial intelligence, even if it has to be constantly monitored in its working method, e.g. for security reasons.

Like the Earth, Venus was formed from planetesimals and has a comparable radius, mass and average density but topography, gravity and magnetic data suggests an unequal development. This article gives an overview of the planetary dynamics and deals in particular with coronae.
